Our Department has a complete curriculum on international business. With our exceptional faculty members and focus both on theories and actual practice, our Department trains the talents needed in our nation's economic and business development. Origin and History As an island economy, Taiwan is inseparable from international management and trade. Founded in the autumn of 1957 and changed its name since 2007, the Department of International Business is the first business school ever established in Taiwan to address this need. We have trained numerous brilliant talents specialized in international business, trade, law, and financial management who work in the government and different industries and contributed to Taiwan's financial development. Features of Our Department1. Complete curricular planning: The curriculum focuses primarily on international trade and enterprises but also covers topics such as international economic relations and corporate international marketing and financial management. Some common questions we have been asked include: “What is the greatest difference between NCCU Department of International Business and other schools' international business programs?" What are the features of the Department of International Business? What are the greatest differences between today's International Business studies and those decades ago? Here are our answers. First of all, our Department's undergraduate program simultaneously covers managerial environment, corporate management, and globalization. This is why our curriculum covers the overall environment of international management, theories of international economics and trade, laws, international finance, international business administration and marketing, international marketing, international financial management, business English, and actual practice. Our students are expected to develop a solid understanding of these areas, and we have worked very hard to refine their skills in fundamental subjects such as economics, law, finance, accounting, and business management. Thus, we are distinguished from other schools as our programs focus on the international perspective of economics. The main difference between us and ordinary international business management programs is that we focus more on the overall environment of international management, trade, law, and economics. We believe a good business manager of the future not only needs to know how to manage an enterprise but also has to have a global perspective and the skill to analyze international economic situations. What we are most proud of is that not only we are the first institute in Taiwan dedicated to international management and trade but we are also the first choice of many new students. In the past 40 years, our Department has developed numerous talents who are now working in key positions in academic circles, industries, and governmental agencies in Taiwan or abroad. They also care very much about our Department and frequently provide resources and services. These exceptional alumni are our pride and the role model for our new students. Being the first institute in Taiwan dedicated to international management and trade is an advantage, but this also requires us to constantly improve ourselves and our curriculum along with the latest social development. In today's program, the focus on the theories of trade and actual practice has been expanded to include the simultaneous coverage on managerial environment, corporate management, and globalization. These changes are the proof of our Department being an academic institute that constantly examines and improves itself. In recent years, we are also actively taking our students to the international stage such as engaging in student-exchange programs with prestigious colleges in Austria, Japan, Korea, and the U.S. in the wish of expanding their global perspective. Our Department has recruited many new talents over the past years, and the new blood has brought more energy to our efforts as they perform exceptionally in terms of academic achievement, teaching, and guiding students. We sincerely welcome you to join our team and work together to take Taiwan's international business status to the next level. Alumni AssociationThe "Alumni Association of the Department of International Business" was founded in 1976 by a group of our enthusiastic alumni. As stated by Professor Hui-Min Lei, one of our first graduates, "The Association was founded as a way for the graduates to communicate and stay in touch with each other." As of today, it continues to serve its purpose. The Alumni Association is represented by three of its members, and alumni of our Department are members as of right. The three representatives are chosen among the graduates each year. According to the "General Rules of the Alumni Association," the representatives' meeting has the power to deal with matters such as elections, impeaching a director, approving/changing the General Rules, reviewing reports from the directors, and handling matters over which the directors have no power. Besides the power system, the "board of directors" acts as the executive system and is in charge of:
The president handles the internal affairs and also represents our Association. The board of directors also has a "Secretariat" in which the chief and assistant secretaries carry out tasks given by the president.
